The Science Behind DermaV
The right wavelength
- The DermaV laser delivers its energy using a wavelength of 532 nm which has 5 times higher affinity to oxyhemoglobin.
- It passes through the dermis and epidermis layers; the energy is absorbed by the oxyhemoglobin in the blood vessels without affecting the surrounding tissues.
- 1064 nm wavelength has higher penetration rate which makes it the wavelength of choice in treating bigger blue veins.
The pulse duration effect
- By changing the pulse duration, treatments can be performed purpurically (with bruising) by rupturing the blood vessel, or sub-purpurically by slowly heating the vessel causing coagulation of the blood vessel.
- DermaV innovative variable sequential pulsing breaks down the main pulse into a uniform pulse train of milli or microsecond pulses that eliminate the risk of premature purpura
- The pulse duration is inversely proportional with the laser ability to rupture the blood vessels, DermaV provides choices of pulse duration from 0.3-60 msec and guidelines to select the suitable parameters for different sizes & types of lesions.

- The treatment works by directing 532nm laser into the upper skin layers. The laser is absorbed by two chromophores: melanin and hemoglobin.
- This absorption results in a thermal effect that partially removes melanin containing cells, damages vessels which limits the blood supply to the target area & stimulate forming new collagen & elastin.
- The presence of the 1064nm wavelength makes DermaV also effective in cases that have dermal component or patients who have mixed dermal & epidermal conditions utilizing the dual wavelength protocol.
